This POP UP SHOW gathers COTOH’s distinctive recent works, offering a glimpse of the range of a talent whose styles are many.

Yet the women COTOH paints are not mere portraits. They function as devices that pose the fundamental question “What is a human being?” in visual and ontological terms. Hovering on the border between the real and the fictional, the individual and the anonymous, these figures exist only in the gaze and memory of the viewer, emerging as a “third presence” that is neither reality nor fiction.

The ambiguity of their contours refuses existing categories and occupies an in-between zone in our perception. Because COTOH’s characters are no one in particular, they can become anyone. This inquiry begins with the deconstruction of every boundary and, while affirming existence as simulacrum, can be read as a process of thought pointing toward new possibilities for the human image in the posthuman age.
